CUE is an on-demand, tutoring service that provides in-home sessions.
CUE aims for simplicity and we achieved it by creating an initial specification with "must-haves" and "nice-to-haves". Then we made them as lean as possible working close with the client. we repeated the process several times until the final, lightweight, single-page application emerged from a much more complicated project with user accounts and several sub-pages.
During the analysis sessions with the client we understood that in this case there's a value in having some of the use-cases involving human CUE staff that normally could be automated. For example, scheduling recurring sessions involves CUE staff member to call back which is a great opportunity to get feedback on the tutor, service and check if the customer needs anything else.
In other cases we focused on the speed of the service. Working with the client we designed the process of handling a tutor request which usually takes less than 15 minutes from form submission to having a confirmed lesson with matching tutor. The process heavily relies on semi-automatic SMS communication with CUE's tutors in order to select the best matching one that's the closest too.
